AUSTRALIA, Sydney – December 20, 2010 - Samsung Electronics Australia today announced that it is offering two free mobile applications to customers who update their Samsung GALAXY S to Android 2.2 (Froyo). Delivering more than just the great benefits of the Android 2.2 update*, Samsung is offering its GALAXY S customers premium turn-by-turn navigation by NAVIGON, valued at $89, and a new Press Reader application.

Premium turn-by-turn navigation by NAVIGON
With NAVIGON’s turn-by-turn navigation, the Samsung GALAXY S transforms into a premium navigation device . Using Australian and New Zealand maps from NAVTEQ, NAVIGON delivers 2D and 3D map views, turn-by-turn voice guidance, drive and walk modes and intelligent address search. In addition, the application features Reality View Pro for photo-realistic displays of directions and Google Local Search for the most up to date point of interest search results.

For customers who want to be in-the-know whilst on-the-go, the Samsung GALAXY S will now have access to the Press Reader application , made available through Samsung Apps. Through Press Reader, users will be able to recieve the most well-known local and international news media directly to their smartphone. Users will have the opportunity to subscribe to over 1600 newspapers, both global and local, in over 47 languages, delivered daily to the Samsung GALAXY S for as little as $0.99 per newspaper.
Key features of the app include Press Reader optimisation and integration, easy-to-use page viewing, convenient page view jumping, easy listening (streaming), simple sharing and virtual bookmarking. The Press Reader application complements the e-book reader app, Borders E-Books, already available to Samsung GALAXY S owners.
Upgrade to Android 2.2 (Froyo)
With the Android 2.2 upgrade, Samsung GALAXY S users will experience smoother performance with optimised application loading and switching. The device will also support Adobe Flash Player 10.0, providing a smoother, higher-quality video viewing experience with better buffering and online streaming. Further, the smartphone will provide enhanced Exchange support, including remote wipe, Exchange calendar sync, auto discovery and the ability to search global address lists.
The Android 2.2 upgrade for Samsung GALAXY S is being progressively rolled out through all operators during December 2010 and January 2011. Samsung GALAXY S devices running on Android 2.1 may be upgraded through KIES (www.samsung.com/au/smartphone/galaxys/software-updates.html).
1. Initial application update required is approximately 9 MB in size. Initial map download is approximately 350 MB. Data charges may apply for both application update and map download. After initial download, the maps are located on the phone. No ongoing data charges apply when using navigation alone.
2. Press Reader app is required to be downloaded first time and is approximately 2MB in size
* Android Froyo 2.2 update for Telstra network phones is currently unavailable. Expected release of Android 2.2 software for Telstra is scheduled for late-March 2011.
