SYDNEY, Australia – December 07, 2010 – Samsung Electronics Australia is proud to be the presenting partner of the 2010 Samsung Mobile AFI Awards this Saturday 11th December at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre. The awards ceremony sees the finest local film and television talent honoured at this prestigious annual event.
The star of the show, however, is set to be Samsung’s new 7-inch mobile tablet device, the Samsung GALAXY Tab. In a first at an awards ceremony, the winner of the Samsung Mobile AFI Award for Best Film will be revealed not by a traditional envelope opening, but by a virtual envelope opening on a Samsung GALAXY Tab. Nominated films include Animal Kingdom, Beneath Hill 60, Bran Nue Dae, Bright Star, The Tree and Tomorrow When The War Began. Developed especially for the event, the unique app gives a taste of what the future of awards ceremonies might look like!
The evening will be rounded off with an exclusive VIP after party, hosted at the Samsung GALAXY STAR BAR, to celebrate the year’s achievements in style. Guests will be able to order bespoke cocktails from the comfort of a private booth via a Samsung GALAXY Tab and settle in for a night of entertainment. The star-studded guest list includes Deborah Mailman, Nick Giannopoulos, Kick Gurry, Sacha Horler, Fred Schepisi, Stephen Curry, Shane Jacobson and Academy Award-nominee, Willem Dafoe. Samsung’s brand ambassador, Simon Baker, is also in the running for an award – the AFI International Award for Best Actor for his work on the smash hit show, The Mentalist.
